Environmental Information
Recommendations Perfectly suitable for 4-colour offset litho and there are no special requirements for specific inks unless the print job is destined for laser printing, laser copying or photocopying.
Conventional, oxidising and UV inks are suitable provided that they are designed for uncoated papers. IR assisted drying is also suitable.
Half-tone screens - recommend output films up to 150 lpi resolution (90gsm) and 133 lpi (100gsm & 220gsm).
Suitable for printing images from FM screened films.
Due to the prominence of the brightwater rib, extra blanket pressures may be required to ensure that the ink bottoms out fully. This may result in an increased dot gain and so extra dot gain compensation may be required.
On the 100gsm, the rib is more prominent on the wireside of the sheet (paper is packed wireside down/topside up).
100gsm digital is guaranteed for mono laser printing provided that:
1. all pre-printing processes are compatible with subsequent laser printing (incl. the use of all inks)
2. any litho printing carried out is done with a minimum of damping and with laser guaranteed inks
3. the paper is fully conditioned i.e. allow the paper to reach press room temperature prior to opening the reams/boxes
4. sufficient time is left after litho printing to ensure that the ink is fully hard before laser printing (not just touch dry), otherwise there is a risk of the ink set off inside the laser printer
5. keep the paper wrapped as long as possible, taking out only what you need and re-closing the packet
To achieve a gloss varnish, it is recommended that a two pass silk screen UV varnish be applied. First pass printing a matt varnish to act as a sealer and a second pass to lay down the gloss varnish on top. Care must be taken for fine lines and tight register - the first pass mass varnish may spread more than the second pass gloss and can give a matt halo effect on fine line varnishing. Litho varnishing will not give the same level of holdout or gloss as a UV silkscreen varnish.
Brightwater Rib is suitable for Thermography but the minimum of heat should be used during the process to melt the resin to avoid excessive distortion of the paper. If the job is to be subsequently laser printed then please ensure that laser printing compatible thermo powders are used.
Foil blocking is suitable but ensure that laser compatible foils are used if the paper is to be subsequently processed through a laser printer.
Cover & board weights require pre-creasing when folding with an adequately deep bead, creasing such that the bead forms inside the fold. It is always better to design the job such that you avoid printing over the fold with a colour which is strongly contrasting with that of the paper.
